Boundary woodland on the southern edge of the New Forest. Ancient oak and beech. Ponies visible from the track on the way in. The most southerly site and the one most guests pair with a coastal drive. Elegant woodland, quieter than you expect.
New Forest Edge — FAQ
Will I see the New Forest ponies?+
Almost certainly on the way in — they roam freely across the heath and the boundary track. Drive slowly, give them space, and never feed them. They are wild animals with right of way.
Can I combine the stay with a coastal day?+
Yes — most guests do. Lymington and the Solent are 25 minutes south, Brockenhurst village 10 minutes east. The Isle of Wight ferry from Lymington runs frequently if you fancy a day across the water.
How accessible is the site?+
Well-maintained track suitable for most capable vehicles. The most accessible southern site in the network. Defenders, Hiluxes and similar are ideal but high-clearance AWDs will manage in dry conditions.
Is the site noisy from nearby roads?+
No. The clearing sits well inside the boundary woodland — you will hear ponies, owls and the occasional deer, but no traffic. Lyndhurst (4 miles) is the nearest town.
Is there mobile signal or WiFi?+
No WiFi is provided and mobile signal is unreliable to non-existent at every Otium site. We treat the absence of signal as part of the experience. Download maps and any reading material before you set off.
Are dogs allowed?+
Not at present. Several of our sites sit inside National Nature Reserve buffer zones, ancient woodland or active conservation areas where ground-nesting birds and small mammals would be disturbed. We may revisit this as the network grows.
How does my booking fund conservation work?+
A portion of every stay is ring-fenced for the specific site you book. Funds go toward native broadleaf planting, ancient-woodland surveying, invasive species removal and access-track maintenance — work carried out by our conservation partners on the land you sleep on.
